The 9th International Conference on Aquaculture and Fisheries 2022 (ICFA 2022) was held from 25th – 26th of August following the hybrid format – taking place physically in Jakarta, Indonesia while also being held via Virtual Platforms across the rest of the world simultaneously. ICFA 2022 was organized under the theme “Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture: The Vision, Benefits, Roles and Responsibilities.” The conference was organized by The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka and hosted by the South-South Aquaculture and Fisheries Cooperation (SSAFC) along with Politeknik Ahli Usaha Perikanan, Indonesia.
ICFA 2022 was a proud part of celebration of the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture 2022 (IYAFA 2022). FAO of the United Nations is the lead agency for commemorating the year in collaboration with other relevant organization. ICFA 2022 was in line with the celebrations, which bring together diverse research and case studies from around the world in parallel sessions, while also providing numerous networking and publishing opportunities in the field, as well as discovering the latest trends and challenges in the field of artisanal fisheries and aquaculture.
The conference united diverse researches and case studies from all over the world, in parallel sessions while offering many networking and publishing opportunities. Moreover, the conference welcomed 75+ Academics, Researchers, Scholars, Activists Industry Leaders and Professionals from 15+ countries across the globe.
The opening remarks of ICFA 2022 were made by Mr. Isanka P. Gamage (Co-Founder & Managing Director – The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), Sri Lanka) and the Conference Co-Chairs, Dr. Rohana Subasinghe: Past President of the World Aquaculture Society – Asia Pacific Chapter (WAS-APC), Retired Chief of FAO Aquaculture Service and Managing Director, Future Fish, Sri Lanka. Along with Dr. Krishna R. Salin (Associate Professor and Chair, Aquaculture Program, AIT, Thailand; President-elect of the World Aquaculture Society – Asia Pacific Chapter). Dr. Albert G.J. Tacon (Technical Director, Aquahana LLC, USA) and Dr. Romi Novriadi, S.Pd.Kim., M.Sc (Vice Chairman of Indonesia Aquaculture Society, Indonesia). Representing co-hosting partner university, Dr. Muhammad Hery Riyadi Alauddin (Politeknik Ahli Usaha Perikanan, Indonesia) addressed the gathering. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf (former Director Administration & Coordination, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (Lahore, Pakistan).
ICFA 2022 brought together over 75 participants from more than 15 countries around the world, including from:
The United States, United Kingdom, Spain, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, New Zealand, Japan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Thailand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria among the many nations represented. The Conference provided an opportunity for participants to share their valuable knowledge from various perspectives. This conference had the representation of almost every continent and region from across the world and provided a global platform to share views and ideas in the field of aquaculture and fisheries, as well as to network with international colleagues.
ICFA 2022 brought two key officials together from FAO (UN) Dr. Audun Lem (Deputy Director – Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Italy) and Dr. Nicole Franz (Fisheries Planning Analyst and Yvette Diei Ouadi – Fishery Industry Officer of FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Department), to share their inspiring experiences and insights with our international audience.

This session on ““How to get your fisheries and aquaculture manuscript published in a well-adapted indexed journal” was moderated by Dr. Pierre Boudry (Senior Researcher, Director of Biogenouest, Project Manager at Département Ressources Biologiques et Environnement (RBE), Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal Aquatic Living Resources, Associate Editor of the journal Aquaculture International), with the aim of providing support to the participants to optimise their chances of having their manuscripts published in well-adapted indexed journals. Guidelines and advises to write and submit a well-structured and focussed manuscript, with clear objectives and outcomes, were presented there. And Criteria for targeting a suitable journal and strategies to optimize the likelihood to have your manuscript published was also by this interactive workshop.
