PARTNER COCKTAIL EVENING

The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) hosted a Partner Cocktail Evening on the 21st of August to the Partner institutions. This was exclusively only for the Partner Universities of the ICFA’19 conference. The occasion was a platform to make new contacts with representatives from Universities all around the world and develop existing ones. Moreover, this gathering provided a unique networking opportunity for the delegates while enabling University representatives to interact in a friendly and fun environment.

Workshop on Seafood Cold Chain Management and Quality Monitoring

The workshop titled” Workshop on Seafood Cold Chain Management and Quality Monitoring” was facilitated by Dr. Janet Howieson and Dr. Rowan Kleindienst from Curtin University, Australia. This workshop included presentations on the overall status and current best practice technologies for seafood cold chain management (frozen and chilled). This showcased Australian case study examples. Demonstration of supply chain monitoring techniques including temperature logging techniques to monitor the cool chain from harvest to end-user/consumer, and quality monitoring using quality index measurements (potentially including fish and/or prawn examples of the impact of temperature abuse, etc). The workshop also provided a summary and opportunity for feedback and discussion of shared experiences/techniques.

Partner Cocktail Evening of #AGRICO and #ICFA Conferences was successfully held on 21st August 2019 in Windsor Suites…

Workshop on Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) in Aquaculture

This workshop on Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) in Aquaculture was moderated by Nick Piggott (CEO of Nutrition Technologies, Malaysia). The workshop covered the basics of how Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) raised at a commercial scale, as well as how best to use BSFL products such as protein meals and oil. In the first part of the workshop participants were able to learn the basic elements to BSFL production at a commercial scale. This included larvae feed options, breeding, and product processing. And then reviewed case studies of BSFL applications and explored ways the system could be integrated into new or existing research projects or businesses. The workshop covered key Issues regarding insect protein in Southeast Asia, such as safety, regulatory concerns, growth projections, and sustainability. Participants were able to gain a thorough understanding of the nutritional qualities of BSFL meal and oil as a fishmeal replacement and explore ways use it in cost-effective ways.

Study Tour Thailand

The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM) in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DoF), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand organized a free study tour for the participants of the 6th International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture 2019 – (ICFA 2019) and 6th International Conference on Agriculture 2019 – (AGRICO 2019) following the conferenceThis tour was fully sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Thailand for 40 conference participants.

The purpose of the study tour was to observe the developments of Thai aquaculture in inland waters and at the same time, obtain information on the organizational and technical aspects of these developments. Whilst this certainly put in leisure time on the tour, the primary focus was on learning Thai fisheries and aquaculture in the Chonburi and Chachoengsao provinces in Thailand.
